Top 8 Summer Patios in Edmonton

Top 8 Summer Patios in Edmonton

There are so many patios in Edmonton that it can be difficult to choose the right one for date night or girls’ night. However, these eight establishments have all put themselves on the map for one reason or another, so let them serve as a jumping-off point for adventures in the city.

1. &27

Also known as “Ampersand 27,” this ultra-hip patio is the kind of place where everyone snaps Instagram photos of their crabcake sandwiches before digging in. It’s sleek, stylish and thoroughly modern, so it attracts many young up-and-comers who enjoy the socializing almost as much as the menu. If you’re looking for a place to see and be seen in Edmonton, this is it.

2. BLVD Bar + Kitchen

Part club and part restaurant, the BLVD Bar + Kitchen is one of the hottest destinations in Edmonton. It’s modeled after the luxurious, high-end nightlife scene of exotic European cities, and you can spot this influence in everything from the dance floor to the drink selection. It’s not like anything else in Edmonton, so you’re definitely in for a unique patio experience.

3. Café Leva

This bright, airy cafe boasts floor-to-ceiling windows on the inside and spacious patio seating on the outside. Though they’re perhaps best known for their pizzas and flatbreads, they also offer a varied beverage menu that includes cold coffees for hot summer days. Think about hitting up Café Leva if you have a hankering for Italian or just feel like savouring the sunshine over a beautiful lunch.

4. Sugar Bowl Cafe

Calling itself “the sweetest place in Edmonton,” the Sugar Bowl Cafe definitely lives up to its name. While it serves plenty of everyday food like burgers and breakfast sandwiches, it gets the most attention for its cinnamon buns, paprika popcorn and banana cream pies. There are also plenty of drinks, including happy hour specials of La Chouffe and Alley Kat Full Moon Pale Ale.

The “Mexican Kitchen” lives up to its brand by offering Latin fusion dishes such as braised pork enchiladas served with mole, queso and rice. There are also themed nights like Tequila Thursdays and Sangria Sundays if you’d like to take advantage of their drink menu, and a DJ comes around every weekend to spin fresh music. All in all, El Cortez  is southern fun in a northern setting.

6. Craft Beer Market

Selling beers, ales and lagers, the Craft Beer Market is like a mecca for the brew-obsessed. While the patio itself is casual and friendly, the people behind the counter take their craft quite seriously, and you can enjoy deep discussions with them about the differences between Belgian-style wheat ale and creamy Guinness stouts.

7. Black Dog Freehouse

There’s nothing like a rooftop patio for an evening of drinks and dancing. Of course, the Black Dog Freehouse calls it their “wooftop,” but don’t let the puns fool you. This stylish, Whyte Ave pub has a revolving door of musicians, comedians and DJs, so it’s one of the trendiest and liveliest places in Edmonton.

8. Earls Edmonton Tin Palace

Watch the sun go down over Earls Edmonton Tin Palace. Not only do they have a large, roomy patio, but there’s also an outdoor bar where you can enjoy all of your favourite brews as the stars come out. They even offer free WiFi if you want to Snapchat your experience for your friends. Now that’s a convenient business!

Summer might be drawing to a close, but you can still enjoy one last hurrah with these eight patios. As temperatures start cooling and patios begin to close, you’ll wish you enjoyed their freedom one last time.
