Are visions of sugar plum fairies dancing in your head? Yes, the holiday season is on its way, and that means snowflakes, tinsel, and events galore!Â
Embrace all there is to offer in our city and check out some events the whole family will cherish.
The Festival of Trees
Shaw Conference Centre – November 30th – December 3rd, 2017
The Shaw Conference Centre is kicking off the season with their Festival of Trees. You’ll step into a winter wonderland with over 200 Christmas tree showcases and displays of creative gingerbread structures and decorated cakes throughout the centre.Â
While you shop and take in the sights and smells, kids can participate in an array of crafts and activities. There will also be special events taking place all weekend, including a family scavenger hunt and breakfast with Santa himself!
Luminaria
University of Alberta Botanic Garden – December 1st – 3rd, 2017
We all know this month can be a busy one, so why not start it off by visiting the quiet oasis that is Luminaria? This peaceful event invites you to stroll the paths of the Kurimoto Japanese Garden, lit by thousands of candles and accompanied by the sounds of cappella singers.Â
Sip hot apple cider by bonfires or ice sculptures, follow your little ones through the Snowlight Maze, and stop to make a wish on the Wish-Upon-A-Star tree. There will also be a Memory Lane where, by donation, you may light a candle in honour of a loved one to make the event extra special.
A Christmas Carol
Citadel Theatre – December 1st – 23rd, 2017
This story is considered such a classic that the holidays might feel incomplete without it. And, now, you can see A Christmas Carol performed live! While it has been adapted by Tom Wood, you can still expect to see the same beloved characters and uplifting message, making it a heartwarming must-see for the whole family.
Candy Cane Lane
148 Street, Between 92 & 100 Ave – December 8th – 31st, 2017
Edmonton’s Candy Cane Lane is a demonstration of true holiday spirit. Completely resident- and volunteer-run, the extravagant light displays of this street are a sight to see. Gather family and friends to attend – you can even book a sleigh ride! Remember to bring a donation for Edmonton’s Food Bank when you do.Â
Christmas at The Winspear
Winspear Centre – December 21st – 23rd, 2017
The Winspear Centre is getting into the spirit, too. Celebrate the season with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and their charming performances. On December 21st, A Lightly Classical Christmas brings new joys to your favourite Christmas jingles. On December 22nd and 23rd, have yourself A Very Merry Christmas to the sounds of delightful renditions of Christmas classics.
Edmonton is buzzing with holiday cheer, so bundle up, hop on board, and go make memories to last a lifetime.Â
