The Best Edmonton Spots for a Pet-Lover’s Date Night

The Best Edmonton Spots for a Pet-Lover’s Date Night

You’re sitting at a fancy restaurant, staring deeply into the eyes of your date across from you when, suddenly, all you can see is the sad puppy eyes of your pet awaiting your return home. If you’re a pet lover, you know the feeling of guilt when you go out and have to leave them behind.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

Why not plan a date that will get everyone’s tails wagging? We’ve got some pet-friendly date night ideas and locations in Edmonton to share with you!

Wanna Go For a Walk?!

Of course, there’s no better place to spend time with your beloved pets (oh, and your significant other) than the great outdoors. A nice walk or hike makes for a casual date and there are parks in and around Edmonton where your four-legged friend can be let off-leash to play frisbee.

If the weather is nice, switch up your idea for a classic movie date and head for an outdoor screening. Edmonton’s “Movies on the Square” program presents a series of free outdoor movies at Churchill square – pets welcome! Check the city’s website for dates and times.

Indoor Entertainment

One of the hardest parts of harsh Edmonton winters is watching our pets gaze longingly out the window, missing their outdoor time. Thankfully, Edmonton has various indoor venues for pets to get their running and fetching fix. In fact, did you know Edmonton now has an indoor dog park?! It’s called Lucky Donkey and it’s a large, indoor facility where your dogs can roam off leash to exercise and interact with other pets – lucky is right!

If you’re interested in working on your own fitness at the same time, you no longer have to choose between going to the gym or walking your dog – you can do both! Top Dog Fitness offers outdoor fitness classes for both humans and canines. You and your partner could be pettin’ while sweatin’ on this fun-for-all date.

Not feeling the active energy? The Alberta Railway Museum uniquely allows leashed pets to accompany owners to the museum. They also have cats on-site there so your pets must be well-socialized. Learn about Alberta’s railway history and tour the grounds while your pet takes in new sights and smells (don’t forget your doggy bags!).

You don’t have to set up a table in a dark alleyway to have a “Lady and the Tramp” style dinner date. There are restaurants in Edmonton, such as The Pint Whyte AveRemedy Café, and Farrow Sandwiches, that offer pet-friendly patios. Taking it up a notch, Doggy Style Deli is a restaurant that was actually created just for dogs! Here, you can order your drooling date a full meal, including raw dog food options and homemade treats. To be clear, we are talking about your dog…your other drooling date will have to grab a bite elsewhere – this deli’s menu is not for humans!

Another idea for a date out on the town is to do some shopping. You, your partner, and your leashed pal can walk around, stopping to shop at various boutiques that will happily invite all of you inside. Pet-friendly clothing boutiques include Shades of Grey Clothing BoutiqueRed Ribbon Boutique, and Lolë Whyte Avenue. If your crew shares a home, you might also enjoy checking out Urban Barn, a furniture and home accessory store. They hold the view that a house is not a home without a dog, so they love to have your pets come in and help you choose furniture (maybe they’ll show you the sofa they prefer for midday naps!).

Finally, if you’re wanting a luxurious getaway without travelling far, perhaps you’d like to spend an evening or two at a local hotel. Sawridge Inn and Fairmont Hotel Macdonald are pet-friendly options. The staff at Sawridge will greet your VIPs (Very Important Pets) with doggy bags and a treat for their stay; Hotel Macdonald will equip your room with a dog dish and bed, upon request.

When planning your next date night, get a little creative so your furry best friend can emBARK on the adventure with you. With plenty of ideas and locations in Edmonton, you won’t have to cut dates short to rush home to your beloved pets – bring them along and they’re sure to sniff out a good time!
